Remembering Rosie C
“Good friends are like stars. You don’t always see them, but you know they’re always there.”
– Christy Evans
Even when they are no longer here. Because they still are…in our hearts & memories. And although that may not seem good enough after the death of a dear friend, it is better than nothing at all. It has to be.
I hope this blog post finds you happy & healthy. Alas, it is with a sad heart that I share with you the sudden loss of my dear friend, Rosemary Cunningham a.k.a. “Rosie.”
Rosie passed away very suddenly from cancer on Sept 13th. I received the news when I was in Greece. I was shocked and devastated…we all were. Rosie was one of our close-knit “Fun Friday Golf Gals” group of ladies who golf together on Friday afternoons.
In the summer, I mentioned Rosie in a blog post entitled, “Summer Market Fun.” Rosie had helped me set up my table a few times at the summer market. That was Rosie…always willing to lend a helping hand.
And she was fit as a fiddle! We loved hiking and walking together…even though I pretty much had to jog to keep up with her – and I am a fast walker! We always had a ball golfing (and enjoying a bevvie on the 19th hole!) with the Fun Friday Girls. Rosie and I also loved to play tennis in town, although we usually ended up spending more time chatting at the net than actually hitting the ball 🙂
The last time I saw Rosie was at the end of July and we’d had a wonderful day together, paddleboarding. I shared with Rosie the comical details of my on-line dating shenanigans and after a good laugh, she offered me some sage words of wisdom. Then we went for a Thai dinner and gabbed for hours more.
Five weeks later, she was gone.
Even though her death was very sudden, thank goodness she was able to be with her treasured family when she passed away.
Here a few fun photos of Rosie C:
“What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.”
– Helen Keller
I know that’s true…but I am still going to miss Rosie very much. We all will. We all do.
How about you?
Do you have a dear friend who comes to mind reading this blog? Someone who passed away far too soon? Or perhaps someone who is still here – and this blog is reminding you that a long-overdue chat or visit might be an order? If so, pick up that phone 🙂
