Oh What a Night!

Gang at premiere

Oh What a Night!

Just a few of the happy patrons at the Capitol Theatre in Nelson, BC on Thursday Jan 9th, 2025, on hand to watch the premiere of the new TV series, “Southern Interior” (MA is second from left and Lynne is third)

“Good comedy exposes truths.”

True ‘dat! Good comedy also leaves you…happier!!

How lucky was I to be able to be invited to a sneak peek of the brand new TV series, “Southern Interior,” in Nelson, BC last week?

It is HILARIOUS! And not just on the first viewing either. Every time I watched it, I caught more and laughed harder. The characters are priceless. I watched the entire series three times in two days: once at the private gala on Thursday night, then twice at the back-to-back private events for Nelson folks on Friday night.

And why is that, perhaps you’re asking 🙂

Well…because my dear friend & travel buddy, Lynne Karey-McKenna, was one of the four main actors in the show! And let me tell you, she and her quirky comrades had the audience in stitches, over and over again.

If you’ve ever spent any time in Nelson, you’ll know it is a very interesting & unique community. I haven’t spent much time in Nelson but I suspect “Southern Interior” captures the comedic heart & creative soul of the many real-life characters of Nelson.

What I did personally witness during my brief stay in Nelson is that it is clearly a very supportive community – all three private events were sold-out…and word has it that more are in the works. And I can see why. The show is brilliant.

Each episode is only about ten minutes long and is comprised of several comedy sketches. So in a single screening, I watched the six episodes of the first season (just in case you’re doing the math for a traditional half-hour or hour episode and thinking I watched an absurd amount of TV in two days, I didn’t).

“Southern Interior” was created and directed by Nelson filmmaker Amy Bohigian, and produced by Gregory Mackenzie, who also lives in Nelson. I had the opportunity to chat with both of them, as well as with some of the other cast & crew. Because I attended all three viewings (as one of Lynne’s team of supporters), they probably thought I was some sort of weird groupie who just would not go home!

Here is a great newspaper article about the show.

Where to watch the show: To be announced.

Here is the link to follow Southern Interior on Instagram, where the announcement will be made.

And here are a few more fun photos:

Do NOT look at my footwear…what was I thinking?! My feet hurt from the high heels the night before so I could not wear them again…but still 🙁
